Lionel Messi has decided to end his career with Inter Miami, a last-place team in the US’s Major League Soccer. It seems surprising for someone who has turned down a $1 billion Saudi Arabian offer.
So why did Messi choose Miami over Riyadh? Some possible reasons:
Messi's expected contract with Inter Miami includes profit-sharing arrangements with Apple Inc. and Adidas AG that would enrich the deal. Also, It's possible he's betting on "soccer" finally taking off in the world's largest economy like Pelé did in 1975 by signing for New York Cosmos.
Messi has expressed his desire to play with some of his former teammates from Barcelona and Argentina, such as Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes.
This summer, Inter Miami will begin negotiations with these players. Messi could also reunite with his friend and mentor Beckham, who co-owns Inter Miami and has been instrumental in convincing him to join the club.
